The Caverns Edition reimagines the HeroQuest Quests using the new Caverns map included with HeroQuest First Light. 

Every quest has been carefully adapted to fit the tighter, more atmospheric layout of the Caverns board — without changing the story, objectives, or spirit of the original adventures.

This is not a rewrite. It’s a faithful remaster designed to make familiar quests feel fresh again.

What’s Not Included

To respect copyright, this download does not include any text owned by Hasbro or Avalon Hill. This means you must use your original game materials for:

• Quest Introductions
• Quest Notes
• Any narrative or rules text from the official books

How to Use

Simply print the Caverns map for the quest you want to replace and use it in place of the original board layout. All of the original Quest Note letters and indicators are preserved, allowing you to reference your existing quest book exactly as written.

A quick note from the creator: Some quests genuinely work better on the standard board. Others come alive in the Caverns. It’s up to Zargon to compare both versions and decide which one sets the right tone for the party. At the very least, this edition gives you options — and sometimes that’s all you need to keep a campaign feeling fresh.

Design Philosophy

The Caverns Edition preserves the pacing and intent of the original quests while embracing a more organic, subterranean environment. Rooms are tighter, corridors twist and turn, and the overall experience feels more cramped, confined, and — ideally — a little terrifying.

Very little is added or removed. Everything is simply reframed through the lens of the Caverns.
